There are days when the best find at the farmer’s market is not necessarily the edible one.
For instance, thousands of stunning, seasonal, affordable flowers are showcased daily at Pike Place Market, but only a few weeks out of the year do the coveted peonies make their short-lived, much awaited and anticipated appearance. This year, we were treated to an extra helping of exceedingly fantastical beauty. Jaw dropping, swoon worthy, OMG type of beauty.
And while not edible…for me, they are just as filling.
That is a flawless flower. Every petal is perfect. Did you pull out any bad pedals, or was the flower just that fresh?
oh no…never. i wouldn’t dare touch a thing on such a magnificent beauty! as if their obvious good looks weren’t enough, peonies also have the most amazing scent. some flowers just have all the luck!

Beautiful photo! Peonies are my favorite flower. My great-grandmother used to grow loads of them. I also liked your lawnmower cupcakes. So cute!
hi meaghan – you and your great-grandmother have great taste! i would love to grow rows and rows of them in my garden.
OMG! That is so BEAUTIFUL! Can I paint this?!!! I love it! So glad you had your camera with you when you went to the farmer’s market.

hi susan – actually, i took this photo after the peonies were safely back at home. this particular one keeps me company at my desk.
a perfect photo of a perfect flower…no wonder you love these so much.
thank you for always bringing them home to me. :)
Complete and total perfection. When you are having a bad day, all you need to do is look at nature around you and marvel in it….
amanda – i couldn’t have said it better myself. it doesn’t take much…to fill your day with beauty.
my absolute favorite flower!
gorgeous picture!
How gorgeous!! I love the flowers at Pike Place Market :) I miss living in Seattle sometimes…. Are you in Seattle? The greater Sound area?
hi kersten – yes, we’re in the seattle area, on a little island just across the way. :) where abouts are you now?
It is beautiful! I’ve only seen fake peonies actually.
What a beautiful flower and picture. I have visited Pike Place Market once while visiting Seattle and absolutely loved it!
GORGEOUS!!!
So beautiful! I love how you contrasted it with the blue :) Peonies are my fave flower. I have a white one in my garden but all the blooms are gone now :( Still trying to figure out how to keep the ants away.
I’ve been told that without ants to eat the coating off the peony buds, the flowers can’t open. Have I been misinformed?!
funny – i’ve heard the same thing, though the gal at my nursery told me that she thinks it could just be an old wives’ tale.
I love peonies!
They are my favorite flower.
Smell like roses but
are visually a far more complex flower.
And I love strolling through farmers markets.
Sounds like you had a perfect day.
