I spy, with my little eye, something beginning with ‘C‘.
Clouds sure are pretty; Cows are mighty cute; and Cats may be cuddly, but nothing—absolutely nadda, can top the wide-eyed, childlike glee of spying Cherries. Cherries make me happy. When they dangle delicately in two’s, and those coveted three’s, I’m especially happy. Skirt-twirling, hop-scotching, happy. They’ve been our house guests for the past few weeks, and if it were up to me, I’d plea with them to apply for a Green Card to establish permanent legal residency in the comforts of the refrigerator drawer. I never, ever, want them to go.
But like all good things, their time with us will soon come to an end. So, meanwhile, I’ve been doing mental somersaults, trying to make the most of every second of their stay. Sussing out new adventures, so they never leave our side. We see them in the morning atop our granola, at the beach with our picnics, in the car on long drives through the countryside, on hikes in our backpacks, and nestled in a clafoutis, or two. But, they tend to shine most at midday. They shine most at lunch. Their sweet nature paired with handsome, peppery wild arugula and the superfood queen herself, Queen Quinoa, makes this salad a tour de force, worthy of spying today, and everyday.

Did you know that fresh cherries can be used to treat gout. My husband suffered from gout several years ago from over consumption of very rich foods, and he is terrified of doctors, so the cherries was a real treat at the same time it help to ease the pain. He also drank tea brewed with celery seeds, and I also include some celery sticks in his diet for a quick cure. This seems inappropriate to post here, but I hope u don’t mind, as I like to use food as a cure for our ailments instead of medication.

Quinoa is one of my favorite grains, and of course can never get enough of spring-fresh cherries. This sounds like it might be the perfect thing to whip up for a picnic I’m planning in the next week or two!

I, too, have had an on-going love affair with cherries, and it’s so bad, they rarely make it into anything beyond my mouth. But arugula is a favorite — especially with fruit. The quinoa sounds heavenly with it.

Love cherries, what a yummy sounding recipe, its hard to screw up quinoa, and the ingredients you put together. Great ideas to add the fig jam to the vinaigrette. We had smoked cherries last night with a pork loin. I am now anxious to break out my smoker and try some more smoked fruit.
I couldn’t agree more, cherries really are a kick up your heels and skirt twirling kind of treat! I’m almost 30 but still delight in dangling cherries for earrings every summer while I enjoy them poached and then spooned over the family christmas ham and then swirled through cream to have with my mums pavlova. I can’t believe I’ve never thought to put them in a salad before it’s a fantastic idea and one I will be trying when they come into season here in Aus :)

lovely blog! just wondering…what is “wild” arugula? The only arugula I’ve ever come across is at the farmer’s market or in plastic boxes at the supermarket…am I missing something? Can you actually stalk the wild arugula, much like wild watercress and asparagus?
