There’s not much I fancy more than sniffing out the week’s new treasures at an open-air market—moseying from one deceptively innocuous stall to another, only to find each brimming with seasonal jewels from land and sea. Market Day, for me, is a colorful, remarkable, and unabated pageant of optimism: displays of camaraderie, kinship, sharing, learning, connecting, giving; us earthlings at our best. The sweetest bite of summer’s first peach, freshly pressed apple cider, or an insider’s tip to easily prepare that scarrrry vegetable you’ve shied away from—you can’t help but feel warm-and-fuzzy inside.
Whether under a sky blue canopy, early Sunday morning, along the verdant foothills of Northern California, or a bustling Wednesday afternoon within an 18th century French village, the anticipation of Market Day’s farmers, ranchers, and artisans, becomes woven into the fabric of our daily lives.
Whatever day of the week it lands, I love knowing—with no uncertainty, it’s always Market Day somewhere.
MUSIC PAIRING: J.S. Bach, Cello Suite No. 1 Prelude
Such gorgeous photos! How did you take the last one?
wow, such a fantastic montage!
Incredible photos. Each and every one.
Your landscapes are captivating, and I love the lush, saturated colors!
Really gorgeous post here. Such amazing pics!!
I love that picture of the road! You’re a great photographer. Makes me want to get out and about, even if it’s just locally.
Some great photos, markets are so colourful. Makes me think of Italy…
Beautiful. This is where I grew up. The photo tagged market_day_18 makes my heart happy.
wow, amazing photos!
It’s market day in Kailua today!
My favorite shot (aside from the last aerial one – so cool!) is the one of the rolling hills, blue skies and a bit of road peeking out from behind a hill. I can never get my sunny shots to reflect how beautiful of a day it actually was when I took the picture, but this one really seems to capture the mood of being in the country on a beautiful sunny day.
I was just about to leave a comment saying that I loved the one with the tiny piece of road. I was even going to use the word ‘peek’! Beat me to it :P
Oh sigh…these are the most gorgeous market photos I’ve EVER seen….and let me tell you I browse a LOT of food blogs! Thank you for capturing the markets in such a good light (literally & figuratively hehe)
Such an amazing market! I think I need to visit my local markets this weekend… and that last photo is awesome!

To feel as though I traveled miles and miles to breathe in that fresh air and the sweetness of the produce, you have such a gift!
so beautiful!
Giao, I just spaced out for a good five minutes staring at the beauty that you captured here. I am about to round up my little men and head to the West Seattle market in the rain. How I wish we could just hop into one of the French market photos instead. This is a bittersweet post for me as the season of four markets a week for me has come to an end. In our area, they are now weekend only. Hope you are well!
enjoy your stay in France !
Beautiful photos as always!
These photos are simply stunning!
beautiful – love farmer’s markets. thank you.
This blog is sensational.

I enjoyed this post more than I’ve enjoyed a post in a long time. Your pictures truly capture the essence of the farmer’s market: they’re beautiful, personal and demonstrate the abundance of nature. Your text, too. I love the way you set out your pictures and I thought the timing was great since we’re just going into harvest season! Congratulations on a fabulous and well-deserved freshly pressed. I’ll be following you along : )

I love markets since I’ve been a little kid: a passion inherited from my grandma and mom who always took me with them to wonder through the amazing stalls of food, clothes and all sort of unimaginable objects. Markets are a place where you can make full use of your senses, smelling, tasting, looking around, touching, they’re amazing!
Gorgeous pictures. Everytime I see pictures like this it makes me wish there were more markets where I live. Thanks for sharing and congratulations!
Really beautiful pictures…I haven’t been to a market in a while, and I do miss that very much, especially after living in France for a while! Thanks for sharing and congrats on being freshly pressed!

These are magnificent! In our area, we have a local farm that does festivities/sweets/food around autumn. I’m posting my pics up from that farm soon – your post has certainly inspired me! Congrats on fp!
Your words are exact. I share your admiration for such an event. Our earth is lush, and we were made to enjoy it. Markets make me feel as though I’m a kid in a candy shop again. Thank you for granting me a smile this evening. Thank you.

You are a greaaaaat photograher ,i love every snap
These photos are really breath taking. As a fellow market junkie, I must ask – have you ever visited Australia? We have such a wealth of open-air shopping on the weekends. From artisan crafts to local produce, it’s just a bit of heaven. My favourite for finding up and coming designers: http://www.paddingtonmarkets.com.au/, but really they’re all a great way to spend a lazy Saturday morning.
Beautiful photos and great blog. Markets are lovely. I love to travel and markets are probably my top attractions :)
Pics are amazing…:)
Wow, awesome photos! You take very beautiful pictures.
Beautiful, beautiful pictures! The colors are outstanding. The perspective is wonderful. Subject matters – Wow! Bravo!
Great colors…put me there into the midst…superb!!
Vibrant, lovely!! Makes me want to go there. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful pictures, very inspiring.
There was a little market right outside out hotel last last time we stayed in Paris. I just couldn’t get over how beautiful the market was! Piles of fresh produce, pyramids of local cheese, and gargantuan skillets full of delectable delights. I love our local market, but the French have this concept down!
I too love a local market! It really is the best way to get the true feel of a place and the people who call it home. Great post, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Oh my Heavens.. if those photos aren’t gorgeous!
Beautiful!
Life is beautiful…
I love the chilli photo – it’s so rich in colour and brightness.

These are magical photos which conjure up many happy holiday memories. Thanks for sharing!
Whenever we go on holiday, we always make a special effort to visit markets where the locals shop. We were in Zanzibar earlier this year and I could have spent hours soaking the atmosphere up had it not been for the smell of rancid meat cooking in the sun!
Love the colours, and the rolling hills and the pictures in which you can almost smell the fresh ingredients! Love your blog!
Absolutely beautiful collection of photos, instant fav :)

As always Giao your photos are beautiful. They make me want summer to return so I can embark on a road trip. I always try and visit the local market whenever we travel somewhere new but I never capture it quite as well as you do with your camera. xo
Gorgeous shots. For some reason, I’m really drawn to the photo of the carrots. But really, all are great. Looks like a lovely market. x

[…] Farmer's Market Love Brace yourself for some pretty pictures! via Kiss My Spatula […]
Beautiful photos!
Your blog is spectacular. I have just spent a very enjoyable time looking through past photos which all seem to be beautiful and captivating and reading the delicious recipes. Absolutely wonderful.
Following my high blood pressure attack, I realized that I had to start taking better care of myself. The open air markets we get in Northern Europe have actually really helped me to maintain a more healthy diet. When you see all of those gorgeous vegetables lined up in the market you want to eat more of them, which is never a bad thing!
oh wow, giao.
all gorgeous, but those poppies, those POPPIES!
sigh…
These photos are so amazing! They’re the type of photos you can look at for a really long time :)
I love markets, the markets in Australia are not just about food, but also wares. Folk art or people selling home made jewelry or home carved wood or leatherwork. There is even usually people having garage sales out of the boots of their cars (otherwise known as a car-boot sale :D). You get the chance to meet so many interesting people and hear stories about their crafts, it’s just fascinating and good exercise because generally the market is pretty big.
I haven’t been to a market day in a while, but now that I am finished Uni work for the year it’s moving to the top of my list! Gorgeous photos, you have a great eye for colour and quirky shots that have encapsured the spirit of the marketplace.
I love Farmers Markets too! Thanks for your beautiful pictures. I also did a series on markets you might enjoy http://secretsofafrenchhostess.com/2011/07/27/le-marche/ let me know what you think.
Incredible photos so much beauty and piece gathered in that small village. It looks like there is totally different lifestyle and passing time did not reflect a lot on the beauty of the place.
We here at Justin’s dig your photos! For us it is about the little things as well, and quality! We love your photos
Peace,
Love,
Justin’s Nut Butter

Just discovered your blog, via David Lebovitz. Obviously, will never get any work done ever again. Gorgeous photos!
You are right.. it is market day somewhere all around the world and these photos look absolutely amazing. The colors and all the food looks amazing. I feel like going to the market tomorrow before the snow hits here in NYC. Nice post
I too LOVE going to the open markets! Your pictures are stunning, they transported me there and it was like I could hear the bustle of people and smell the aromas of all the different food. You have inspired me to take my camera with me next time I go to the market.
oh my goodness – these are absolutely stunning. the colours are so bright and the images are so sharp. thank you for sharing such lovely shots
I love this! And I must say.. makes me a bit jealous. We have a “farmer’s market” in our town… but it’s only in the summer and it only has 1 or maybe 2 produce booths and the rest are filled with crafts and foods like Papa John’s Pizza! I lived in Belgium and France for a couple of years and loved going to the wonderful markets there every week.
Just Beautiful!

I’ve already taken a few photos of recipes from this blog (because I’m feeling too lazy after a day at work to write it down) so I can get the ingredients at the markets tomorrow, and then you post about farmers markets and recommend the prelude of JS Bach’s 1st suite and oh I think I’m in love!! As a cellist, that is my favourite piece, and as a wannabe foodie, farmers markets are my favourite places :D Beautiful photos, I’ll definitely be coming back for more!! :D Rhi xx
The Wildest of Dreams
beautiful pictures! so glad I found this site! The recipes look amazing too.
Your photography is beautiful! Really transports me to wherever those were taken. And I love the music pairing. Are the destinations a mix of European and US? Some of the landscape shots scream Northern California to me, though I’m picking up Italy and France as well.

Am-az-ing photos !!
This post has given me serious excitement for the Summer. Where I am from in England we are more farm shop than farmers market people, and living here in California I’ve been able to enjoy them a bit more, but there is nothing like market day in the towns and villages surrounding my home in Northern France I can’t wait to get back to in August!
Such vibrant colors and contrast! Love the window shots! And the carrot one is my favorite! I just stumbled over here from Of Agates & Madelines via Thyme Bomb…love discovering gems like this after getting “lost” in blogworld! :D
What lovely pictures. Want to move here with bag and baggage
Beautiful!!! ..makes me daydream of little villages and long Summer days.
Lovely Photos!
